After an earthquake destroys their family cave, the Croods are forced to venture out into the dangerous pre-historic world in search of a new home. It’s up to patriarch Grug (Nicolas Cage) to keep his feisty and resilient caveman family—which includes the most volatile force on earth, his teenage daughter Eep (Emma Stone)—safe. Surviving in this volcanic world is tough enough, but the real complication arises when they encounter an imaginative nomad named Guy (Ryan Reynolds) and Eep becomes smitten with him. This charismatic inspired thinker’s search for “tomorrow” is at odds with Grug’s reliance on the traditions of yesterday. But with Guy’s help, the Croods conquer their fear of the outside world and discover they have exactly what it takes to survive—each other.
The Croods is directed by Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch) and Kirk DeMicco (Space Chimps), produced by Kristine Belson (How to Train Your Dragon) and Jane Hartwell (Shrek, Antz) and features music from composer Alan Silvestri (Forrest Gump, The Polar Express, Back to the Future).
The Croods is rated PG. Running time: 98 minutes.
